I know that it’s not always possible to fit in a relaxing massage or other holistic therapy. I also know, despite working to relax others throughout my day, how life’s stresses can accumulate and get you down. So, here are some of the ways I self-soothe when time, money or life just doesn't allow for a special treatment.
Flowers
Fresh cut flowers are my absolute favourite. I obviously love receiving a big bouquet on a special occasion, but in between birthdays and anniversaries I like to buy my own flowers. You can head to the florist and go all out with mass of lilies and greenery, or you can just as well get a little bunch of tulips or carnations for less than £5 at your local supermarket. Flowers in a vase lift a room, providing colour and vitality. Consider them a small gift to yourself!
Hot baths
A relaxing bath in the evening can wash away the stresses of the day, restoring you physically and mentally. Like with flowers, you can make this as special or as simple an experience as you’d like – be it bubbles, bathbombs, essential oils or salts. You can light a candle, put on some music or a podcast, dive into a book or practice calming breathing and mindfulness. Like with a treatment, it provides a pocket of time and a space just for you.
Clean sheets
Regularly changing our sheets might just be a necessary chore, but it can also sometimes be such a treat to tuck yourself into fresh bedding. For a touch of luxury I love big, squishy pillows and decorative throws on top of a comfy bed! Clean, crisp sheets can make you feel cool and calm, and can help clear your mind so you get a good night’s sleep.
Let me know if you have any really simple things you do to give yourself some love and care when you need that little boost!
